On May 13, 2025, God called His beloved Bennie Crenshaw home to glory.  Born on April 18, 1941, in Mobile, Alabama,  Bennie was the son of the late Wiley Crenshaw and Estella Watts-Crenshaw.  He was one of 11 siblings and was raised in a loving Christian home, where he came to know the Lord as his personal Savior.

Bennie attended Jackson State University from 1961 to 1965, where he made his mark both academically and athletically.  He served as a quarterback and defensive back on the football team throughout all four years of attendance, earning varsity letters each year.  He was awarded a varsity "A" letter blanket for his achievements and received "All-SWAC" honors.  Bennie also played baseball from 1962 to 1965, earning letters for three years and receiving "All-SWAC" honors again.

While at Jackson State, Bennie became a proud Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated member.  His dedication, talent, and leadership on and off the field led to a successful professional career.  Bennie was a defensive back for the New York Giants (1965– 1972) and the New York Jets (1972–1974).  In addition to his sports career, Bennie also honorably served his country.  Later in life, Bennie was honored with an induction into the Jackson State University Hall of Fame—an accolade befitting his accomplishments and legacy.

In 1965, Bennie found the love of his life, Treva Crenshaw.  The two shared a lifelong bond and remained devoted to one another until her passing.  Their love was a testament to commitment and faith.

Bennie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Treva Crenshaw; his parents, Wiley and Estella Crenshaw; and siblings, Willie Mae, John Westley, Robert Wiley Crenshaw, Annie Jean Davis, Thomas James Crenshaw, Horace Crenshaw, Willie James Crenshaw, and Sarah Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Dorothy Mae Willis, Bertha Mae Holloman, Irene Wright, Sharmaine Dotts and Patricia Andrews Walker, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends, including Lorraine, Don, Mack, and many more.

Celebration of Bennie's Life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road., Pontiac, Michigan.  Family hour will begin at 10:00am and the service will immediately start at 11:00am.  Interment will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan.
