On January 8, 1950 Charles Edward Anthony took to the stage as the second child of Ida Mary and Reedie Anthony.  Born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan by his gentle, caregiver mother and and strong, entrepreneur father.   Charles grew to love the city and people in Pontiac with all his heart.

Charles was educated in the Pontiac School System and later studied at Oakland Community College and Oakland University.  Charles and Dorothy Annette Gibbs met while both attending Oakland Community College in 1969.  They married in 1970 and had one child together, Keshya Roshynn Anthony.  Charles and Annette later divorced, several years later Charles and Vanessa Wilson welcomed a son, Abdul Hakim Wilson and even later, he and Sharon Tyson welcomed his youngest son, Daniel Israeli Tyson.

Finally after retiring from the City of Pontiac after many loyal years, he's able to devote all his time to professional musicianship and artistry.  A highly sought entertainer at many venues and countless events for the City of Pontiac.  N.A.A.C.P. and social organizations throughout Michigan and across the country.   Charles performed on stage large and small for everything at every place from festivals to cruise ships to his tour in Australia.  He received many accolades and awards,  most recently was a July 2015 nominee for Jazz Artist of the Year and for outstanding music in the City of Detroit by the Detroit Black Music Awards.

He continued to work and connect with people for thoughtful conversation, study, and as always, music concerts, corporate events, fundraisers, Church and education work and local festivals through the end.

Although family relationships were sometimes strained, everyone that knew Charles knew that he loved his family dearly, through the good times and the bad, no matter what he saw.  He was protective of his mother and looked up to his father.  Charles was usually better at showing rather than telling his love.

Charles was preceded in transition by his parents, sister Marian Payne, brother Winston Anthony.  He leaves to cherish his memory, one sister, Rita Mae Anthony, three beautiful children; Keshynn "Kee Kee" Anthony, Abdul Haskin Wilson and Daniel Israeli Tyson, four precious grandchildren; twins Daniel Jr and Raeli, Valentine,  baby LaSiah and a multitude of other loving relatives and friends.

Mr. Anthony will lie in repose on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road., Pontiac, Michigan from 1 p.m until 5 p.m.   Funeral services will be held at Cobb's Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 12 p.m.  Family hour will start at 11 a.m. prior to the service.

As a global concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19) begins  to  have a impact on our community, we are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of the families we serve and the community in general.  Some families are making the decision to postpone services while others have opted to move forward with a small gathering of close family and friends.

It is Cobb's Funeral Home policy, which lines up with the restrictions of our governor, Gretchen Whitmer, that all gatherings are limited to 20 people with a distance of 6 feet.
