Obituary

Charlie "Chuck" Smith of Pontiac, Michigan, was born to the late Ruby Smith and Charlie Battle on April 13, 1949, in Barnesville, Georgia.  He departed this life on November 7, 2024, and was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; Obie and Carrie Smith, five aunts and six uncles.

Charlie graduated from George W. Carver High School in Douglas, Georgia, participating in football, track, band and Industrial arts.  After high school, he moved to Pontiac, Michigan, and was employed by General Motors for forty years.   Charlie was a decorated Vietnam Veteran,  earning eleven medals and badges, including the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Purple Heart Medal.  He loved collecting baseball caps, watching sports, and listening to music.  Charlie was an American Legion Post 515 member in Douglas, Georgia.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters; Sharla Smith, Stacey (Ernest) Sledge, and Tara Grady, eight grandchildren, Stephen (Lumetta) Smith, Courtney (India) Smith, Dontae Smith, Brandon Smith, Roderick Causey, Kristopher Causey, Brianna Smith and Breah (Andrew) Langlois and twenty great-grandchildren, aunts; Patricia Sullivan and Annie (James) Perry, special cousin; David Reed and close friends; John Flagler, Vivian Gibson, and Jerome Loving and a host of relatives and friends.

Charlie Smith will lie in repose on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Ochard Lake Road, Pontiac,Michigan, from 12:00pm- 4:00pm

Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday,  November 19, 2024, at 11:00am at Cobb's Funeral Home Chapel 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, family hour will begin at 10:30am and the service will immediately start at 11:00am.

Interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, Michigan  48442, immediately after the service.
