Derrick "Bowlegs" "Big Baby" Douglas was born on September 1, 1963, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Annie Ruth Douglas and the late Garrett Douglas Sr.  He made his transition  on June 27, 2026.

At an early age, Derrick accepted Christ under the guidance of his late grandfather, Rev. Breaf Dyer, founder of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  Growing up in a musical family, he developed a deep love for music and began singing in the church choir, where his lifelong passion for the arts first took root.

Derrick attended school in Pontiac until his freshman year of high school, when his family relocated to Houston, Texas.  He graduated from Kashmere High School, where he became a vital member of the World Renowned Kashmere Marching Band under the direction of Conrad Johnson and Sylvester LaBlanc.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Garrett Douglas Sr./Johnny Stenson; his grandparents, Rev. Breaf and Cleo Dyer; and Edmund and Mildred Douglas, Aron Nichols and sister Darlene Mitchell.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children: La'Terese Douglas of Oak Park; Derrick Douglas II & Tristan Douglas of Pontiac; Ashley Douglas of Sterling Heights. He also leaves behind his cherished life partners, Bernadette Clark and Laurie (Coney) Douglas; his loving mother, Annie Ruth Stevens; his brothers, Garrett Douglas Jr. of Pontiac, James Stevens and David Stevens of Indiana; his sisters, Greta (Willie) Marshall of Detroit, Shirley Christian of Pontiac, Toiann Douglas and Cassandra Plew of Indiana; his treasured grandchildren, Davion Douglas, Zavier Jackson, Liana Suarez, and Leo Douglas; his special friend, Robert Williamson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, fellow musicians, and countless lives touched by his music and generous spirit.

Derrick Douglas will lie in repose on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, from 12:00pm  -  4:00pm.

Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 394 Howland Ave, Pontiac, Michigan.  Family hour will begin at 12:00pm and the service will start at 1:00pm.  Internment will be held in Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan immediately after the service.
