Derrick was born on April 14, 1987, in Saginaw, Michigan to Simmye and Patricia Franks, Sr.  Derrick was the third child born of that union.  He was preceded in death in by his father, Simmye Franks, Sr., his aunts, Carolyn Bozeman and Brenda Joyce Oakry, and both of his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Derrick attended and graduated from Pontiac Central High School.  He briefly attended Baker College in Auburn Hills, Michigan.  In  2016, Derrick relocated to Kentucky and remained there until his passing.  He held various jobs in the restaurant industry.  At the time of his passing, he was employed with CKE Restaurant Holding Inc., as a clerk.

Derrick profess his faith in Christ at an early age, he loved spending time with family and friends.  His favorite hobbies were playing basketball, dominoes, spades, and participating in family cookouts, he was effectionately known as "the nutty one".

Derrick made his transition on March 3, 2024, cherishing his memory; his six children; Brynlee, Caliyah, Demontrae, Eric, Nhazaryiah and Famouz.  His mother, Patricia Franks, his three siblings; Marcus, Simmye, Jr., and Margaret Franks, as well as a host of other  relatives and friends.

Derrick will lie in repose on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Cobb's Funeral Home Chapel 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, from 12:00pm until 6:00pm.

Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at New Experience Church of Christ 575 E. Pike St. Pontiac, Michigan.  Family hour will begin at 10:30am and the service will start at 11:00am.  Bishop Antonio Gibson, officiating.
