Dwight Woodrow Butler was born on March 4, 1955 in Pontiac, Michigan to the union of Jessie Butler and Alyne Carr. He graduated from Pontiac Northern High School in 1973. He went on to begin his career by joining General Motors Corporation.
On March 21, 1980 he married the love of his life, Barbara Jackson. He was a dutiful husband as well as an unwavering father. His family never needed to look externally for a role model, as Dwight was a hero in his on right, He gave of himself so selflessly, that not only did he serve as an awesome father figure for his own children, but to several other family members, family, friends and community children seeking guidance. He was an extremely proud Papa! He shared special bonds with his grandson and godson that will never fade.
Today, an amazing man will be laid to rest. Husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and life of the party. Dwight Butler, age 65, passed away with family by his side at William Beaumont Hospital on Monday, July 13, 2020.
The birth and death of this great msn are not as significant as all the lives that he impacted and wonderful memories created between those two dates. Dwight was full of life, charismatic, humorous, and very much so a "man's man". He will will be remembered by all for his infectious smile, sense of humor, he never met a stranger and the list goes on and on. While he may have been known for his fun-loving spirit, one thing he did not play about his family! He was so many things tomso many people, but above all...HE WAS LOVED! We are honored to celebrate the dash between the day he entered this world and the day he left it. We encourage you to do the same!
He leaves behind to cherish his memory and continue his legacy, his beloved wife of 40 years, Barbara Butler, his children; Dwight Broome, Dion (LaToya) Butler, grandchildren; Gavin Butler, his siblings; Alfonzo (Taquana) Butler and Terri (Ricardo) Taylor, godson; Xavier Brown-Lee. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.

As a global concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19) begins to have a impact on our community, we are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of the families we serve and the community in general. Some families are making the decision to postpone services while others have opted to move forward with a small gathering of close family and friends.
It is Cobb's Funeral Home policy, which lines up with the restrictions of our governor, Gretchen Whitmer, that all gatherings are limited to 20 people with a distance of 6 feet.
May God continue to bless and strengthen all of you during this time.
