Eddie

May 3, 1924 — Aug 26, 2023
Eddie Walker, first born of seven children (May 3, 1924) of Earnest and Frances Mann Walker, grew up in Mississippi during the challenges of racism, violence, and injustice. He confronted these barriers with integrity, reliability, and tolerance.
Encouraged by loving and supportive parents, young Eddie excelled in school (Leake County Agriculture High School Class of 1943). Then went on to serve our nation in World War II. He was in active duty with the 761st Tank Battalion and Allied Veterans unit, and received a Presidential Unit Citation for "EXTRAORDINARY HEROISM IN MILITARY OPERATIONS ". He was honorably discharged from the United States Marines Corps on November 30, 1945.
After relocating to Michigan he met and married Luvenia Platt, welcoming stepchildren Annie May and Larry Platt. After the death of Luvenia, Eddie's heart connected with Mrs. Nora Bush, whose companionship he enjoyed until she was called to rest.
