Eugene "Gene" Daniels of Pontiac, Michigan departed this life on June 11, 2018.
Mr. Daniels was born on August 19, 1926, to the late Eugene and Emma Daniel, in Kissimmee, Florida. He was the oldest of six children. E
ugene attended Kissimmee Public Schools and served in the Navy during WWII. After which, he moved to Detroit, MI where he met and married, Erma O. Thomas of Windsor Ontario, and to this union was born Kenneth, Glenn and Kathy.
Eugene simultaneously earned a skilled certificate at Pontiac Motors Institute while working as a Barber. Eugene loved working alongside, Barber, Bonnie Milton, where he cut the heads of many young children, including former Pontiac Mayor Walter Moore. As his family began to grow, it was his job as Die Setter at Pontiac Motors, for the next 40 years, that provided the income for his family.
Eugene accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Newman AME church under the leadership his Uncle, the late Rev. J.A. Parker. Although busy, himself, he always made sure his children were active members of Newman at an early age. Eugene was a quiet, but friendly man. Always quick with a smile, it was not uncommon to see Gene sharing a joke with the local butcher or having a friendly chat with a co-worker on the street. His hobbies included watching "the ball game," gardening, fishing trips with brother-in-law, George; barbequing with family members, and traveling with Erma and fellow Retirees of UAW 653. Eugene spent the last 2 years of life residing at Regency of Waterford Nursing Home where he was cared for by loving staff. After a short illness, Eugene had his homegoing and joined his family members in Christ on the evening of June 11, 2018.
Eugene leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Erma; sons, Kenneth Eugene(Elise), Glenn Winslow (Debbie); daughter, Katherine Elizabeth; brothers, Earl (Alice) Daniels of Miami, Fl., and Charles (Pearl) Daniels of Kissimmee, Fl., sister, Hattie McCall of Kissimmee Fl., Brother-in-Law, George Thomas of Windsor, Ont., Sister-in-Law, Edith Thomas of Windsor, Ont.; Special Cousins, Joseph A. Parker, jr. of Detroit, MI., Toussaint L. Parker of California, Sudine (James) Bradley, of Maryland, Jacobian Keith S. Parker (Paulette) of California. Grandson, Artie Stefan Daniels (Kerston); Granddaughter, Alicia Kennise Daniels (John); 2 great-grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. Eugene is preceded in death by Stepmother, Lillian Daniels of Melbourne, Fl; Sister, Roxie Daniels of Pontiac, MI; Brother, Edward Daniels of Kissimmee, Fl. Special friends; O.C. Johnson(Belle), and "Catman"(Edna) Williams.
