Obituary

I, Gloria Holmes was born on April 6, 1951 in Collington, South Carolina. I was the youngest of 7 children to whom Benjamin, Sr. and Loretta Holmes joyfully brought into this world and raised.  As I journeyed through school, I graduated from the Morris High School.  I then later attended New York University, where I studied Nursing.  I didn't stay in New York long.  I later moved and settled in Pontiac, Michigan.

I loved to cook and spend time with my grandchildren; they often gave me the strength to continue to press on.  If you really knew me, you know that I loved getting my nails done! That was a necessity! I also loved playing bingo every now and then, playing Yahtzee and going shopping.

On November 25, 2025, as I lay in the hospital, the Lord saw that I was getting weak. He did not want me to suffer any longer and he knew that I had finished my course.  He said to me, "Gloria, come unto me and rest".  I knew that it was my time to rest and I answered the Lords call and I fell asleep.

I was preceded in death by my amazing parents, Benjamin, Sr. and Loretta Holmes, my beautiful daughter Marteshia George, my siblings: Ruthie, Benjamin, Jr., John, Marie and Theresa and my aunt, Fredericka.

Those that I have left behind to honor my memory: my daughter, Lisa, my two sons, Steven, Jr. (Julie) and Edwin; my sisters: Virginia Holmes and Patricia Summers; my awesome grandchildren: Keywanta, Kevin, Shanzi, NaZia, Dyllon, Daquan, Egypt, Kenzie, Da'Ron and Amya; my wonderful great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Ko'da and Luca and my beautiful aunt, Beverly McArthur and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
