Henry James Winfield was born on June 19, 1945 in Opelika, Alabama to Clemon and Lula Mae Winfield. He was their fourth of eight children.  He made his transition on August 29, 2026, surrounded with family.

Henry James attended Opelika schools and graduated from J W Darden High School as the 1963 Valedictorian and began college classes.  Henry James traveled around and served two years in the United States Army, including one year in Germany.  He then decided to move to Michigan.  In Pontiac he was affectionately known as George.  He retired from General Motors.  George was a master mechanic and loved painting cars.  He was always in demand.

George leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ruthie, his children Carmen, Carla, and Garland Grady, of Alabama, and Carl and Eric Winfield of Pontiac, Michigan; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; his sister Carrie (Thomas) Davis, his brother Clarence Winfield, and his sister-in-law Julie Winfield.  He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Henry James was preceded in death by his parents Clemon and Lula Mae Winfield, his sisters Mary Winfield, and Cassandra Stanton, his brothers Clemon Wayne, Willie Lee, and Andrew Charles Winfield and several aunts and uncles as well as his beloved grandmother.

Henry James will lie in repose on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, from 12:00pm - 6:00pm.

Celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Cobb's Funeral Home. Family hour will begin at 10:30am and the service will promptly start at 11:00am.  Interment will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery,  Pontiac, Michigan, immediately after the service.
