With deep sorrow and love, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who departed this life on March 28, 2026.
Born on May 22, 1949, to the late JC Sr. & Ida Mae Butler Thomas, she was the second eldest of seven children. She was raised in Pontiac, Michigan, attended Pontiac schools, and graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1967. A lifelong learner, she achieved a proud milestone later in life by graduating with honors from Oakland University in December 2016.
She dedicated 33 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where she built a respected career and also served as Clerk Craft Director for APWU Local 480/481. Her commitment to service continued even in retirement, as she worked as an Activities Clerk at Medilodge of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew and three nieces. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Angelena (William) Thomas-Scruggs; her goddaughter, Jolinda (Leon) Mims; her siblings, Dennis (Lucille) Thomas, Sr., J.C. (Glenda) Thomas, Jr., Davy Thomas, Joy Washington, Martin (Carolyn) Thomas, Sr., and Janet Hopkins; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Ida Mae Thomas will lie in repose on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, from 12:00pm til 8:00pm. Reflections & Memory Share begins at 6:00pm.
Celebration of Life Service, Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Eastside Church of Christ 149 Martin Luther King Blvd, Pontiac, Michigan. Family Hour 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM and The service will start at 2:00 PM.
Final Resting Place, Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00am, at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan.
