Jerry Lavell Burnett was born on December 23, 1959 in Detroit, MI to the late Jimmie and Beverly Burnett. Jerry made his transition on April 12, 2020, at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, as the Lord called him home. Family and friends gather here today to reflect the significance of a life well lived.
Jerry accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour at an early age at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, MI. During his early years, he spent a lot of time with serving God as a bassist with the Gospel Travelers Band, founded by his father. Jerry was also a part of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church where his father, the late Jimmie Lee Burnett pastored, and is currently pastored by his Brother Clarence Burnett, Sr.
Jerry graduated from Charles E. Chadsey High School in Detroit, MI in 1978. He went to Oakland University of Rochester Hills, MI, where he studied political science and was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Jerry worked many years in the automotive industry and was currently working as an Operator Supervisor at Edscha Automotive Michigan Inc, in Auburn Hills, MI.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was often called Jerry "Mr. Live Life". He believe in living life to the fullest, he would end his conversation with "Live Life". Jerry enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, close friends, he had a huge passion for weightlifting and attended Iron City Gym in Waterford, MI, where he mentored many young men and won many awards. Jerry loved to watch reruns of his favorite television shows, such as Martin, The Jamie Foxx Show, Good Times, The Jefferson's and Law and Order. Jerry also loved sports, particularly basketball, and football, he also loved to play the bass guitar. He could play any song by ear! Jerry spent a lot of time traveling with Wife, Sadie. Their yearly favorite trips were cruises to the Caribbean Island with close friends.
Cherishing his memory is his wife of 29 years, Sadie Burnett, joined in Holy Matrimony on September 7, 1991. Sharing fond memories is his five children, Courtney (Cornelius) Williams, Tyrell Warren-Burnett, Shana Burnett, Bria (Timothy)Tucker and Demar Howard.
Jerry is survived by his loving brothers and sisters; Teri Burnett, Jimmie Burnett, Rowena (Charles) Bostic, Elder Clarence (British) Burnett, Sr., Yolanda (George) France and Tiffany Burnett. Jerry will also be missed by his loving sister and brothers-in-laws; George (Marie) Howard, Sr., Harolyn Elaine (Frank) Burnett, Calvin (Delvern) Howard, Gary Howard, Teresa Rodges and Diane Howard. He will be missed by his special Aunt Ella (Loveman) Gray, nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers at Edscha Automotive, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Jerry's legacy will continue as he engraved many morals, values and life lessons in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
