Obituary

John Louis Herring III, 58, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, slipped peacefully from this life on July 11, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of family and friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John was a steady light—radiant with joy, strength, and laughter. His absence leaves a quiet ache in the hearts of all who were blessed to walk beside him.

Born on October 1, 1967, in Pontiac, Michigan, John "Duke" Herring entered the world with a spirit destined to touch others.  Educated in the Pontiac school system, he later journeyed to Alabama to pursue his college education.  John proudly served in the United States Army, offering his strength, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to his country—qualities that continued to define him long after his service ended.

For more than 30 years, John dedicated himself to Chrysler, where his work ethic, humor, and generosity transformed colleagues into lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Marie Herring, and his grandparents, Mary Lee Brantley and Samuel Edward Smith, and mother-in-law Bette Hood.

John's legacy continues in the hearts of those who survive him: his beloved wife, Krystal Herring; his Father, John Louis Herring Sr., his brothers Thomas (Tracey) Herring, Terrance "Terry" Herring, Gaven (Natika) Herring, Jason Herring, Godfrey Herring, Aaron (Tinika) Herring, Jacque Reed, his sisters Valerie Buck, Melonie Herring, Angela Herring, Shannon Herring, Jennifer Herring, Faith Herring, Leslie Henton; his children Joshua Herring, Johnathan Herring, and Kahya Austin; his grandchildren, including Niyanna Herring; Justice Herring, Zuri Herring, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
