Jonathan Wayne
Brown
Feb 20, 1966 — Jul 8, 2025
Jonathan Wayne Brown, Sr. was born on February 20, 1966, to Vivian Chatfield and the late Chavis Barnett Spratt Jr. He was adopted by Iva and Cecil Brown and raised as the youngest of 13 children. He maintained lifelong bonds with both his adoptive and birth families.
Known as Johnny or JB, he was admired for his charm, style, and many talents. He was a gifted cook, rising to head cook and manager at Denny's and the Pancake House, later returning to hands-on cooking in institutional kitchens.
He married Rena Hardie, and they had three children: Omar, Jonathan Wayne Brown Jr. and the late, Mia. The family was known for their love of skating and coordinated outfits. Later, JB married Tymesha, his energetic match on the dance floor and in life. He remained close with both former wives.
A highlight in JB's life was reconnecting with his biological father, Chavis "Spratt" Spratt Jr., a respected musician and activist. JB also developed close relationships with his siblings Chevis, Bonita, Allison, and Sharon, with whom he gathered regularly.
JB passed away on July 8, 2025, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Port Huron, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by adoptive parents Cecil and Iva Brown, and siblings Baby Brown, Roy Brown, and Cecilia Elizabeth Holloman. He is survived by his children, siblings, and a large extended family who loved him deeply.
