Nellie Romain Hooper departed this life on May 5, 2025, at the age of 86.  Romain was a devoted mother, god-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She is remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, faith, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon Steven Hooper, Jr.; her daughter, Elaine Michele Hooper; her grandson, Desai Ray Abrams; her parents, Roy General Cox and Della Hickman Cox; and her siblings: James Oscar Cox, Payne Nathaniel Cox, Joe Bill Cox, Irene Hatcher, Annie McCleda Hatcher, Howard Cox, Ella Mae Hatcher, and Cathleen Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children: Lillie Ann (Candy) Hooper, Deltrina Hooper, Amy Johnson (Iron), Kenya Washington, Orlando Hawkins, and Fatima Hawkins; her loving brother, Robert Leo Cox; her grandchildren: Malcolm Little, Hannah Little, Halle Little, Joshua Johnson, Jordan Johnson, and Jada Collins (Bryan); her precious great-granddaughters: Reese Elaine Thomas and Joelle Morae Johnson, her affectionate god-daughters, Jackie Phlegm and Antwanisha Davadi; a host of loving nieces and nephews, and her loyal friend Connie Jones.

Public Viewing will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cobb's Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Romain's life will follow on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Douglas P. Jones officiating.  Family Hour will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  Internment will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery 878 N. Perry St. Pontiac, Michigan.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and grace will live on in all who knew and loved her.
