Obituary

Otis Massey departed this life on June 28, 2018.  Otis Massey was born on November 12, 1929 to John & Rosa Massey in Winston Salem, NC where he accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hanes Missionary Baptist Church.  He attended Carver High School where he excelled in Football and became known as "Choo Choo" and "Little Dynamite".  After attending North Carolina A&T State University for one year he enlisted in the Army in 1951, and in 1953 he was honorably discharged.  Otis moved to Pontiac, MI in 1953 and began working for General Motors. In 1955 he married Vernell Bratcher until her death in 1972.  Otis and his family joined Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Roy C. Cummings where he was a faithful member until his death.  He also attended Welcome Missionary Baptist Church early morning service for 29 years under the leadership of Pastor Douglas Jones.  Otis later married Joyce Robinson until her death in 1998. He was a member of the American Legion Cook Nelson Post 20.

He was preceded in death by his wives Hazel Vernell Bratcher Massey and Joyce Dean Harris Massey, parents, John & Rosa Massey, siblings; William Lewis Massey, Edward Massey, and David Massey; and granddaughter, Imani Simone Glenn.

Otis leaves to cherish his memory, children, Bernard (Michelle) Dean of Atlanta, GA, Sandra (Greg) Carter of Pontiac, MI, Velma Massey of Pontiac, MI, Zelma (Otis) Newkirk of Auburn Hills, MI, Otis Leon (Cheryl) of Winston Salem, NC and Carol Jordan of Waterford, MI; grandchildren, Daryl (Jennifer) Massey of St. Cloud, FL, Rolanda (Develin) Peet of Auburn Hills, MI, Harry Benion of Cincinnati, OH, Gregory (Alexandria) Glenn of Madison Heights, MI, Selina (Damion) Galloway of Winston Salem, NC, Portia Carter of Mt. Clemons, MI, Keon Massey of Winston Salem, NC, Brittney (Vernon) Williams of Winston Salem, NC, Sharee Bush of Tallahassee, FL, Autumn Jordan of Waterford, MI, Dewayne Jordan Jr. of Waterford, MI; DeUndra (Greg) Fuller of Waterford MI, Angela (Darrell) Simmons of Pontiac MI, and Brandi (Albert) Turner of Zachary, LA.  Thirteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; sister, Pearline Hill; special friends, Thomas Green, Early Wilson, Toni Smith, Alan Gibbs;
