Peno Washington,
Jr.
Jun 6, 1952 — Jan 15, 2022
Peno Washington Jr., affectionately Imown as "Jr," was born June 6, 1952, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Peno and Irene Washington. The family moved to Pontiac, Michigan, after Jr was born. He accepted Christ at an early age. Peno attended school in the Pontiac School District, graduating from Pontiac Northern High School, class of 1971. He loved to play basketball and football during high school and continued challenging others on the basketball court well into his adult years. Peno retired from General Motors after over 30 years of working in the Department of Sanitation, where he gained certificates from OSHA and special training in Commercial cleaning.
Peno was a cool, laid-back, kind man who dressed to kill with his suits, hats, shoes, and cologne - a technique that all the Washington men seemed to have acquired. Peno peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beautiful highschool sweetheart and wife Laurita; their two loving children, daughter, Shavonne L. Washington and son, Peno "DeRonn" Washington Ill, both of Pontiac, Michigan; two beautiful sisters, Edna Mae Henry and Delores (Robert) Owens, both of Pontiac, Michigan. Peno was the greatest "PaPa" in the world to his four grandchildren who loved him dearly: Terrell Gholston, Jr. of Auburn Hills, MI, Daizhawn Hunt Sr. of Waterford, MI, Jawon "Domonique" Washington of Louisville, KY, and granddaughter, Saniya Washington of Pontiac, MI. He absolutely enjoyed his four great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Daizhawn Jr., Cameron, and Carmyn.
Peno's presence will be missed by a host of cousins, including Lynn Dawson and family of Michigan, Pauline Chinn and family ot Texas, The Graham family of Tennessee, and Don Whitner, who is part of the entire Louisiana family. There are numerous special nieces and nephews, Lawrence "Terrell" and Rodney Washington, Roderick Owens, and Edgar Mabson. He shared a very special bond within the Dixson family, who fondly looked upon him as their brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. He developed a special relationship with his father-in-law, Rev. Clifford Dixson, Jr., of Mableton, GA., Andrew Cosby and the Conley family were long-time buddies and special friends. He also had a unique bond with his special grandchildren; Laquinta Tucker, Kajzhana Brown, Zelda, Byron, Nautica Wilson and Larita White. His parents, Peno Sr., & Irene Washington; four sisters, four brothers and a long-time friend Leon Conley preceded him in death.
