Obituary

Rose Lee Davis, age 90, passed away on October 12, 2026, in Pontiac, Michigan.  She was born on March 6, 1936, in Foote, Mississippi, to Elnora (Wyatt) Scott and Earl Lee Davis.

Rose grew up in Greenville, Mississippi, where she began her education at School No. 2 during the 1947–1948 school year and later attended Lizzie W. Coleman High School.

In 1958, Rose moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she spent many years building a life filled with family, friendships, and memorable experiences. In 2004, she relocated to Pontiac, Michigan, where she continued to cherish the relationships and traditions that meant so much to her.

Rose was known for her feisty personality, sense of humor, beautiful smile, and straightforward way of speaking.  She enjoyed listening to blues music, spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and bringing laughter to family gatherings. Whether playing cards, reminiscing about the past, or playfully talking smack with family and friends, Rose had a way of making moments together entertaining and unforgettable.

Throughout her working life, Rose held several positions in Chicago, including cashier, hostess, and beautician during the 1960s. In the early 1990s, she also worked as a hall monitor at Rezin Orr High School in Chicago. Outside of work, Rose enjoyed fishing, playing cards and softball in Chicago with members of her card playing circle. She was a devoted poker player, she loved the competition and camaraderie that came with the game.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Elnora (Wyatt) Scott and Earl Lee Davis; her brother, Milton “Boonie” Walker; and her beloved partner, Frank McGee.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Ronald Burns; granddaughter, Alexis Burns; grandsons, D’Juan Burns and Joshua Hunt; and her great grandchildren, Alina Hunt, Maddox Burns, and Amir Walker.  She also leaves extended family members and loved ones who will forever treasure her wisdom, stories, laughter, and unmistakable spirit.
