Sylvester Giles, Sr., began his life's labor on November 28, 1941 in Priscilla, Mississippi.  He was a middle sibling of 17 born to the late Jimmie and Minnie Giles.  On the morning of April 26, 2020, the Lord called him to his eternal resting place in glory.  While at home with his family, he departed this life peacefully from natural causes.  He professed his love for Jesus Christ at a young age and served as a deacon at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for about 50 years.

Sylvester was a man after God's own heart and a good steward.  He loved and saw his wife, Flora, as his helpmate for 55 years.  He was an awesome father, who cared for his children.  Although he retired from General Motors after 40 years of service, he was an avid painter by trade.  Sylvester loved reading his bible with a cup of black coffee each morning.  He took pride in his lawn care and service within the Church.  He was known for his smile which seemed to be wider when he spent time with his brothers or saw his sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmie and Minnie Giles, brothers; James (Georgia ) Giles, Leroy (Alice) Giles, Jessie (Charlie Mae) Giles, McKinley Scott and David Scott; sisters; Margaret Giles, Birdette (Eddie) Dixon, Lizzie Wilson; sisters-in-law, Bernice Giles and  Lillie Scott; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sylvester leaves to cherish his memories and legacy of love; his devoted wife, Flora Giles; children; Sylvester Giles, Jr., Darrell (Helen) Giles, Sr., Shelia Grandison, & Dr. Yolanda Giles, M.D.; Grandchildren; Darell (Antoine ) Giles, Jr., Tenisha (Shaye) Giles, Brandon Giles, Darrion Cornett, and Corvin Giles; Great-grandchildren; Arielle Carter and Ariahana Giles; Brothers; Frank Giles and George Scott; Sisters; Mary (James) Mason, Estella Ford, and Leatha Hawkins; and sister-in-law, Lorine Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

There will be a Family Gathering on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 12 p.m. at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road., Pontiac, Michigan.

As a global concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19) begins to have an increased impact on our community, we are taking steps  to ensure the safety of the families we serve and the community in general.  Some are making the decision to postpone services while others have opted to move forward with a small gathering of close family and friends.

It is Cobb's Funeral Home policy, which lines up with the restrictions of our governor, Gretchen Whitmer, that all gatherings are limited to 10 people with a distance of 6 feet.
