Velma Faye Beasley was born on February 25, 1942 in Marshall, Texas to the late Reverend Scipaio and Clearmont (Caldwell) Reid. Mrs. Beasley, affectionately known as "Faye", made her transition on Sunday, September 29, 2019. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Greater Middle Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev. J.H. Johnson.
Faye attended Park School in Marshall, Texas from the first through third grade. She moved to Ferndale, Michigan with her family in 1951 where she attended Grant Elementary and Lincoln High School.
Faye married Oliver Glen Beasley, Sr. on July 29, 1961 and to this union five children were born. She was a loving and faithful wife for forty-four years. She relocated to Pontiac, Michigan with her family where she joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Faye was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved going to church, listening to music, celebrating holidays and going out to eat.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Glen Beasley, Sr.; her parents, Reverend Scipaio and Clearmont (Caldwell) Reid; her brothers, James Wade and Scipio Reid, Jr.; her sisters, Helene Farris; her grandson, Maurice Beasley; her granddaughters, Crystal Weatherspoon and Keosha Beasley.
She leaves to cherish her memory; five children, Oliver Glen (LaWanda) Beasley, Jr., Wendy (Eric) Smith, Alphonso (Beverly) Beasley, Michael Beasley and Marvin (Levitta) Beasley; two brothers, Dorie (Priscilla) Reid and Baylee Reid; two sisters, Gloria (Charlie) Morgan and Muriel (Anthony) Reeves; two sisters-in-law, Edna (Robert) White and Ida Reid; seven grandchildren, Paul, Darnell, Brittany, Tanisha, Olivia, Hannah, Marketta and twenty-six great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Beasley will lie in repose on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church 318 Auburn Ave., Pontiac, Michigan from 1p.m. until 8 p.m. Velma Beasley's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, the family hour will start at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Timothy Lawrence, officiating. Mrs. Beasley will be laid to rest at Perry Mount Park Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan.
