Vergie M. Payne was born March 12, 1933 to Herman and Azzie Lewis in East St. Louis Missouri.

They later migrated to Indianapolis, Indiana along with her brother Herman Lewis, Jr., where she attended Cripus Attucks High School, and graduated in 1950.  She met and married the late, Morris Taylor in 1953.  To this union was born 3 children; Morris, Jr., Linda and Keith, Sr.

Vergie was very adventurous, athletic and competitive as a youth.  She loved softball, track and dancing.  At the same time she was always dressed to impress, beautiful and gracious.

Looking on I grew to understand what really made her happy.  That came in the form of her second husband, the late, William H. Payne, retired, career SGT MJ US ARMY.  They traveled extensively, lived in California for a while and saw the world together, now she's gone on to be with him, just like she wanted.

Vergie M. Payne of Pontiac, MI, made her transition on December 17, 2023.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her eldest son; Morris Jr., grandson; Keith Jr., her brother's children; Shelia Ann, Stephanie, Angela, Natalie, Kim, Danny, Terry, Darwin, Vivica and a host of nieces and nephews on the Taylor side of the family.

A Memorial service will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, the family will provide more information by social media via Facebook.
