Obituary

Mr. Walter Hardin, born July 25, 1953, in Dell, Arkansas, was the beloved son of Welton Hardin and Mary Newson-Hardin.  Walter was one of 12 siblings.  Walter accepted Christ as his personal savior and was an ordained deacon at Greater Metropolitan Church of God In Christ.  Walter joined the United States Military at the age of 18 and was proudly stationed in Germany.  His vibrant energy and strong presence made him a cherished cornerstone of his family.  He departed this life on July 29, 2024, surrounded with family.

Walter was known for his lively spirit and his dedication to celebrating life by spending quality time with family and friends.  His devotion and joy were evident in every interaction.

Walter Hardin is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Hardin; three sons, Jermaine Lewis, Cornelius Lewis, and Adrian Lewis; one daughter, Veronica Woods; one grandson, Sandarius Gillespie; one great-grandson, Messiah Gillespie; one brother, Welton Hardin; and four sisters, Willie Mae Scott, Lenora Farmer, Josephine Shaw, and Dorothy Hardin.  He also leaves behind a special nephew, Lonnie (Nikida) Scott; special great-nieces, Briana Scott and Shamika Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Newson-Hardin and Welton Hardin; one daughter, Sylvia Hardin; two brothers, Clarence Burton and Eddie Hardin; and four sisters, Georgia Hardin, Nettie Hardin, Margaret Hardin, and Rosemary Hardin.

Walter Hardin was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be profoundly missed. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Cobb's Funeral Home Chapel 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan.  Family hour will begin at 11:00am and the service will start immediately at 12:00pm.  Internment will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan immediately after the service.
