Willie Ray James of Pontiac, Michigan, was born on October 30, 1948, in Hammond, Louisiana, to the late Augustine James.  He made his transition at home on September 6, 2026 surrounded by family.

A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. For his brave service and dedication, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. The values of loyalty, duty, and quiet strength that he embodied during his military service guided him throughout his entire life.

Following his military service, Willie built a life rooted in family and the simple joys of life. He shared wonderful years of love, companionship, and devotion with his longtime partner, Tempye Byrd. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, shared memories, and a strong bond that meant the world to both of them.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Tempye Byrd. ; his children, Raymond Norris , Ranetha Davis, Jacquline Nichols, William Nichols and Kimberly Nichols. his grandchildren, Rahsheta Norris, Raymond Norris jr? Marlon Davis Jr, Marcedes Davis, Sumaya Nichols, Makai Kelly, Marquan Nichols and Marquill Nichols.  Great grand children. Harmony Keenan, Armani Keenan and Kingston Davis.

He was preceded in death by his son Reginald Norris, his mother Augustine James
